David Attrill is Senior Lecturer and Hon. Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Birmingham School of Dentistry.

He graduated in 1991 from Manchester Dental School. He undertook Junior Hospital positions in Manchester before commencing a period of PhD research to develop lasers and evaluate their interactions with teeth. His PhD was awarded in 1997.

He spent five years employed in part time general dental practice in the North-West.

From 1998-2003 David undertook a lectureship at Manchester Dental School whilst undertaking his specialist training.

In 2003 he moved to Birmingham where he is Head of the integrated undergraduate Adult Restorative Dentistry programme (Clinical Practice) and works alongside Professor Damien Walmsley in the teaching of Prosthetics.

Birmingham School of Dentistry has a number of innovative teaching resources for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and David has helped in the development of these.

He has publications in the fields of laser dentistry, caries diagnosis, and Prosthodontics. He currently acts as a referee for a number of journal and has contributed to the development of national standards in lasers and light sources.

His clinical love is prosthetics. He is committed to the teaching of Prosthetics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the delivery of high quality prosthetic care to patients.
