Schottlander Oral Presentation
The British Society of Prosthodontics, in association with Schottlander, offer an annual prize of £750, together with a certificate, to the principal author of an oral presentation given at the annual conference of the society.
In line with the theme for the BSSPD 2012 conference (Complex Problems - Innovative Solutions) this prestigious prize will be awarded for a twenty minute clinical case report, outlining the treatment of a complex clinical case. (followed by 5 mins questions)
All applicants must be current members of the society. Applications for this award are sought from members of the society and especially but not exclusively from those in training positions. The case presented should have a major prosthodontic focus in any aspect of prosthodontics (fixed, implant, removable, maxillofacial).
All applicants must submit a draft copy of their presentation in pdf format prior to the closing date for the shortlisting procedure which will be undertaken by a panel of society judges under the chairmanship of Dr PW Smith.
Four candidates will be selected to present at the Annual Conference on the tuesday morning session. and will be informed by 15th February 2012.
All four successful candidates will be given a conference fee reduction of £100.
Application Procedure
1. Candidates should email Schottlander2012@bsspd.org to express their interest in applying.
2. Candidates will be contacted and advised on how to upload their draft presentation to the judging panel.
3. The judging panel will review the applications and all applicants will be informed of the outcome by 15th February 2012.
4. Sucessful candidates will be given a booking reduction code to allow them to access a reduced conference fee.
5. Sucessfult candidates should then upload a final abstract via the abstract submission page.

Guidance Notes
Candidates are required to submit a ppt or pdf file of their draft case presentation once requested to do so by the chair of the judging panel. The case presented should have major prosthodontics focus (fixed, removable, Implant, maxillofacial)
The candidate must have had a direct involvement in the management of the case presented and where other clinicians been involved, the extent of their contribution must be acknowledged.
Presentations will be of 20 minutes duration and will be followed by 10 minutes of questions by members of the judging panel.
The judges will be looking for
- the degree of complexity and innovation involved
- knowledge and understanding of the clinical management of the case
- the clarity and structure of the presentation
- the candidate's ability to discuss and reflect on the case
The Schottlander Oral Prize was awarded to Andreas Artopoulos from Kings College London for his talk on "A metrological investigation of the dimensional stability of three permanent denture base materials".
