BSSPD Undergraduate Student Elective Prizes (January and April)
The British Society of Prosthodontics, announces its intention to offer an elective prize for four undergraduate dental students on an annual basis. Each award would be to the value of £500. Applications would be considered to support an elective period of study related broadly to the field of Prosthetic Dentistry. The winners of the award would need to submit a report to the Society on completion of their elective and would be encouraged to present a report of their study, either as a communication, or a poster at the annual conference.
Potential applicants should note that the first two awards will be made from proposals submitted for the January deadline and the remaining two from those submitted for the April deadline. This is to allow for the fact that the timings for elective studies are different across the dental schools. Applicants can only apply for one round and therefore should complete the appropriate form so it is clear for which date they wish to be considered.
Regulations
A candidate should be a registered undergraduate dental student and no individual may win the award more than once. Award of the prizes will be made by the officers of the Society on the recommendation of a panel of assessors appointed for this purpose. The Society may withhold the awards if it is considered that entries are not of sufficient merit.
There will be two rounds in which applications for this award will be considered. Applicants will need to submit applications to the Honorary Awards Administrator by 27th January 2012 for the first round or by 5th May 2012 for the second round. It should be noted that applications can only be considered for one round. Applicants should therefore complete the correct form so as to indicate when they wish to be considered. The first two awards each year will be made from the applications submitted for the first round and the second two will be made from those submitted for the second round.
Applicants should provide an account of up to 1000 words stating the objectives of theirstudy and the intended benefits as well as a breakdown into how the award will be used alongside other costs of the elective. The period of study may be taken outside of the UK.
An estimate of the cost of travelling and accommodation should be included. Any
application must be supported by the Head of Department / Elective Co-ordinator from the Dental School at which they are an undergraduate.
