Sound Foundations - Avoiding problems with implants

This lecture will provide practical advice on the use of dental implants within current clinical practice. Peter will outline both the risks and prosthodontic benefits of modern implant treatment. He will also show cases that have worked well and others that have developed problems; taking lessons from both.

Learning Outcomes - following the lecture dental practitioners will be better able to:

• balance risk to reward when discussing implant treatment with patients
• appreciate both the type of patient and clinical circumstances where implants (single or two stage) are likely to perform well
• understand the key stages of implant planning
• prescribe to your technician appropriate prosthodontic design
