Restorative Management of Cleft Patients

Aim:
To describe the role of the Restorative Consultant in the management of cleft patients and the importance of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Objectives:

By the end of the webinar the participants should:

  • Be aware of how cleft care in the UK is currently structured and be aware of the NHS Standard contract for Cleft Lip and/ palate services
  • Understand the aetiology, presentation and classification of cleft
  • Be aware of the cleft patient pathway
  • Understand the roles of each member of the cleft MDT including: speech and language therapists, psychologists, surgeons and clinical nurse specialists
  • Be aware of the clinical challenges often faced when providing restorative treatment for adult patients and strategies to manage them
 

Poonam kalsi

Poonam is currently a Consultant in Restorative dentistry at Guy’s Dental Hospital and works as part of the South Thames Cleft team.

She graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Dental Institute in 2006 and completed a year of vocational training in general dental practice. Poonam then completed two years in hospital based SHO posts, prior to completing her specialist training in Restorative dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital. She also undertook an MSc in Conservative dentistry and was awarded a Fellowship in Dental Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
