Aims and objectives:

The aim of this webinar is to discuss practical aspects of planning treatment for older patients in relation to general health. The objectives are:

  • To briefly consider the impact of ageing and dental treatment on the dentition.
  • To emphasise the need for prevention for older people
  • To discuss the impact of quality of life when planning dental treatment
  • To explore the role of simplified clinical techniques in providing care
 

Tim Friel

Tim Friel is a Senior Lecturer / Consultant at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. He qualified in 1988 from the London Hospital and worked in various CDS posts until 2006, completing an MSc in Prosthetic Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute in 1994.  He was recognised as a specialist in Prosthodontics in 2001 and Special Care Dentistry in 2010.

Tim’s areas of clinical interest include all aspects of removable and fixed prosthodontics and dental care of older people with special care requirements. He organises the clinical teaching in Removable Prosthodontics for the D Clin Dent programme in Prosthodontics at the Dental Institute.
