Sarra Jawad is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.  She qualified as a dentist in 2004 with honours from King’s College London, having intercalated a BSc in Basic Dental Sciences with Physiology in 2001 (first class honours).  She has a varied clinical background, having worked in Community Dentistry, General Practice and the Hospital Services.  Sarra carried out her Restorative Specialty Training at the University of Manchester Dental Hospital and during this time embarked upon a research study comparing mini dental implants to conventional implants as abutments for complete mandibular overdentures.  This study secured a £250,000 NIHR Research for Patient Benefit Grant and formed the backbone of her PhD thesis, which was awarded in 2019. Her dental interests include multidisciplinary oral rehabilitation of patients, particularly those with Cleft Lip and Palate, Head and Neck Cancer and Hypodontia.  In addition to her clinical commitments, Sarra is a national Specialty Advisor for Restorative Dentistry for the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a reviewer for the Journal of Prosthodontics and regularly lectures for Health Education England on a variety of topics related to Restorative Dentistry.
