Dr Lynch has have published 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals. His research topics include:

• Quality issues in the prescription, design, and fabrication of removable and fixed prostheses (I was awarded the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry Research Award in 2004 in support of an aspect of this work)
• Contemporary teaching of a variety of areas within Restorative Dentistry, including posterior composite restorations, removable prosthodontics, vital and non-vital bleaching
• Admissions protocols for selecting dental students (the results of which were reported in the national media)
• Dental enamel microstructure, and its relationship with the development of tooth surface loss and enamel bonding (this forms the basis of my PhD thesis)
• Polymerization protocols and physical properties of composite resin materials
• Outcomes and quality issues in endodontics.

Dr Lynch is the Academic Lead for Removable Prosthodontics, however, his teaching interests include all aspects of Restorative Dentistry, with special emphasis on removable and fixed prosthodontics, adhesive dentistry, and tooth-coloured restorations.
