Professor Giles McCracken

Title: The latest generation can't cut it like we could in our day.

Giles McCracken is Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the School of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University. He has worked in Hospital, General Dental Services and Academic settings and is currently the Director of Postgraduate Taught Clinical Programmes and the Degree Programme Director of the MClinDent in Restorative Dentistry. He is an also Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Giles is research active working on both NIHR and locally funded projects and supervises multiple postgraduate research students.  His research themes include clinical trials, investigating oral health interventions and outcomes, dental education, dental materials science, and evidence synthesis/systematic review.

At a national level, Giles is Chair of the Specialty Advisory Committee for Restorative Dentistry (nominated by the British Society of Periodontology), Chair of the Academic Reference Group (formally CCDAS) of the BDA, Regional Advisor and Principle College Clinical Educator in the Academy of Clinical Educators at the RCPS Glasgow,
