Looking back to the future of dentures and dental education

 Janice Ellis

Janice is graduate of Newcastle University gaining BDS with Honours in 1987. She became a Fellow of the Royal College in 1991 and went on to complete a PhD in the subject area of drug induced gingival overgrowth in 1998. Having completed clinical and academic training pathways she is now Professor of Dental Education, and Director of Dental Education at Newcastle University School of Dental Sciences and Hon Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Newcastle Dental Hospital.

Her clinical interest is in removable prosthodontics and she provides a specialist service attempting to manage those patients which others have given up on! Academically her research interests focus on clinical educational.

She is an ex- President of the British Society of Prosthodontics, a founder member of the British Alliance of Researchers in Dental Education & Scholarship and Co-Lead of the NIHR Incubator for Clinical Education Research. As the current Chair of Dental Schools Council Education Committee she has been instrumental in developing the Educational Transition Document and acted as part of the reference group developing the Safe practitioner framework. She has served as an External examiner for a number of BDS, Masters programmes and PhD’ s throughout the country and internationally.

Outside of work Janice ‘enjoys’ running, swimming (pool and open water), gym training and yoga.
